Upcoming premiere The Double by Loren Ipsen on February 7
Loren Ipsen’s play The Double is thrilling and thought-provoking, seductive and entertaining, confusing and captivating. The Independent described it as audacious yet painfully relevant, while The Guardian hailed it as a tricksy thriller and the theatrical discovery of 2022. Staged for the first time in Lithuania, Ipsen’s play gracefully, effortlessly and humorously presents a modern take on Shakespeare’s Juliet, plagued by the problems faced by many of us today. What happens when there is only one person in the whole world you can truly trust? How do you navigate relationship crises and the feelings of insecurity? Suddenly, the protagonist starts experiencing strange things that are so familiar to all of us, and the line between dreams and reality gradually begins to blur.
Do you feel under constant surveillance? Do you feel marginalised if your views differ from those of the majority? How do we know if the stories we hear are true? Could The Double be lurking somewhere nearby, ready to take over your life?
Director Augustas Gornatkevičius, set and costume designer Simona Davlidovičiūtė, composer Jokūbas Tulaba, video artist Kristijonas Dirsė. Cast Saulė Gotbergė, Inga Mikutavičiūtė, Pijus Narijauskas, Robertas Petraitis, Ugnė Žirgulė. Translation from English: Ignas Beitsas.
