Daily routines of a village with naivety, harmony, and tender sensibility to the homeland are portrayed with traditional Lithuanian humor and picturesque characters. Matchmaking, being an old tradition, is full of comic episodes and touching moments. Mr. Gaidys, an old bridegroom, makes a firm resolution to marry. Just one question, what to select: the land or a woman, haunts him. T. Vaižgantas portrayed typical characters of Lithuanian literature and revealed humorous Lithuanian day-by-day lives. Lithuanian matchmaking is one of the most popular and funniest customs, depicted in Lithuanian literature. Keturakis was the first one who successfully impersonated the matchmaking ceremony in the dramaturgy (America in the Bathhouse). According to its subject, the play The Dilemma: the Land or a Woman? could be compared to an offspring of the latter play. The only difference is that there are no disadvantaged ones; it is just a good prank and a fool who gets his desserts.
