Short film “Dialogue From The Between Worlds” to Be Presented at a Film Festival in Australia
On 6 September this year, the short film Dialogue From The Between Worlds will be screened at Africa Film Fest Australia. The film is one of the outcomes of Deconfining, a Creative Europe cooperation project implemented together with partners from Africa.
The screening will take place at Event Cinemas in Parramatta, Australia.
Dialogue Between Worlds tells the story of two prominent twentieth-century filmmakers: Lithuanian director Jonas Mekas and Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène. Born just eight days apart at the turn of 1922–1923, both lived through the upheavals of the Second World War and the occupation of their home countries, Lithuania and Senegal. Encounters with significant figures in twentieth-century art and politics also marked their lives and artistic careers.
The screening offers a valuable opportunity to introduce Australian audiences to Lithuanian theatre and the legacy of Jonas Mekas. Director Naubertas Jasinskas appears in the film as Jonas Mekas.
The film was created by the artist collective The School of Mutants: Stéphane Bottéro, Hamedine Kane and Valérie Osouf. It has previously been presented in Lithuania, in Dakar, Senegal, and at a festival in Poland.
The project was commissioned and presented by the National Kaunas Drama Theatre and RAW Material Company as part of the Creative Europe project DECONFINING.
