Stephanie Engeln was born in Düsseldorf and studied interior architecture and design. Since 1985 she has been designing scenography, costumes and lighting for theatre and opera productions, exhibitions, museum installations and hotel interiors. In 1989  at the Frankfurt Theatre she worked for the first time with Robert Wilson on the film “King Lear”, based on Shakespeare’s works, starring Marianne Hoppe. Many of her other collaborative art, theatre and opera projects followed in Europe, Asia and the USA.
